Hello Year 1,

I hope you had a great week last week and managed to have fun in the rain. This week is meant to be a little sunnier so I have got some activities that you might like to do in the garden.

Have a go at building a den. Perhaps you could read a story in there when it is finished.

Have a go at a scavenger hunt in your garden.

Or have a go at pressing some flowers. (Remember you need to check with mummy and daddy before you pick any flowers as some flowers can make you feel very poorly)

Lots of flowers are starting to come out in my garden. I wonder if lots of flowers are coming out in your garden too. The Video below might help you if you’re not sure how to get started. I love making beautiful pictures with the flowers I press.

Thursday 11th June

Hi Year 1,

Did you have a look at the phonics videos in our class area yet? If you haven't why not watch one and join in.

Today’s challenge is to help out in the kitchen. You might like to make your own lunch, create a fruit salad or bake some biscuits.

Apologies if you tried to look at the phonics videos earlier. You will now be able to view them.

Wednesday 10th June

Hello Year 1,

Did you have fun blowing bubbles yesterday?

I have some very exciting phonics news to share with you. In our class page, you may have noticed a new sunflower tab that is labelled phonics. In here you will find Mrs Burgess and monkey's phonics videos. Have fun joining in with us.

Today have a go at using a fork to help you paint an animal.

Hi Year 1,

I hope you enjoyed tasting some different food yesterday.

Today have fun blowing bubbles. How big can you make the bubbles? Do you notice anything interesting about your bubbles? Why do you think they eventually pop?

Thursday 4th June.

Hi Year 1,

I hope you are all having a great week.

Today  I thought we could explore different shapes and patterns. They can be found all around us – from flowers to footballs, seashells to staircases. Today, draw some lines on bottle tops or pebbles (if you don’t have these, you could use circular pieces of card). See what shapes you can make with the lines. How creative can you be?

Parents if you would like more information on this activity, have a look at the link below.

Wednesday 20th May

Good Morning Year 1,

This year the Olympic Games were meant to take place in Tokyo. Unfortunately, they have been delayed until next year but we can still have lots of fun finding out about them. Today, try to find out what events happen at the Olympics. You might like to draw a picture or write some sentences about what you find out.

You might also want to create your own family Olympics Games for either this week or half term.

Tuesday 19th May

Hi Year 1,

How did you get on making musical instruments?

I had a lovely surprise in my inbox yesterday! Take a look below and see who sent me a video of there AMAZING musical instrument.

Hi Year 1,

I hope you had a lovely weekend.

Today why not have a go at making your own musical instrument.

Friday 15th May.

Hi Year 1,

How did you get on with your number hunt?

Today I am sat looking out of my window and I can see that the sky is blue and the sun is shining! I wonder what the weather will be like tomorrow and how I can that find out? Have you ever heard of a weather forecast?  You might have seen it on the TV or on a mobile phone.

I wonder what different weather you can think of and if you can draw some symbols to show what the weather is. What symbol will I see if it is sunny like today?  What will I see if it is going to snow?

Thursday 14th May

Still image for this video

Wednesday 13th May

Have a go at making an aquarium today.  Can you find out any interesting facts about fish? Where do they live? What do they eat?

Tuesday 12th May

Did you enjoy being up in your hot air balloon yesterday? I wonder what you saw? Ollie found this link and thought everyone might like to see Oxfordshire from the air. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-oxfordshire-52571849/coronavirus-the-thames-valley-from-the-air-in-lockdown

Today's challenge is to be a bird detective. What birds do you get in your garden or in your local area? Sit quietly in your garden, looking out of your window or in a green space on your walk. What birds do you see? Can you identify them from this sheet?

Monday 11th May

Good Morning Year 1,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend enjoying the sunshine.

Today I would like you to imagine you are back up in the hot air balloon flying over the UK. What would you see as you flew over the cities and what would you see as you flew over the countryside? What is similar and what is different?

Thursday 7th May

Hi Year 1,

How did you get on with bridge-building?

On Friday people all around the UK and Europe will be celebrating 75 years since VE day. This was the day where the 2nd World War ended. During the war people had to live their lives differently to normal. They didn’t get to see their friends and family as much as they would like and they couldn’t do all the things they normally enjoyed doing. A bit like us at the moment.

During the war some people, who had to be very brave, and were given medals to celebrate how brave they had been.

I think you are all being very brave at the moment so I thought you might like to make yourself some medals. You could even make some for other people in your family too.

Wednesday 6th May

Hello Year 1,

How did you get on making your hugs?

Today, can you help the Gingerbread Man

The Gingerbread man can’t get across the river to escape being eaten, can you help him? What can you build to get him across the water?

How can you make your bridge as strong as possible? You could make it out of straws, lolly stick, paper, cardboard or recycled plastic. Which material will work best? Does the design of your bridge help make it stronger? Below are different types of bridges you might like to look at before trying to build your own.

Tuesday 5th May

Today you might like to mail a hug.

Could you brighten by sending them a hug in the post? Maybe an aunt or uncle; Granny and Grandad or a friend.

Draw around your head, arms and chest. Then colour it in and cut it out. You could include a letter to let them know what you have been doing.

Monday 4th May

Hi, Year 1

I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Create a shadow today. You can either do this inside with a lamp or outside (if it’s sunny). Make your shadow as big as possible and as small as possible. Can you find out why we get shadows?

Friday 1st May

Good Morning Year 1,

Today is the first of May. It is a special day called May Day. May Day started to be celebrated in Roman times and in the past is was celebrated as one of the only days farmers had off work. We still carry on with some of the traditions including dancing around a maypole dancing, Morris dancing and crowing the May King and Queen. Today you can choose to draw a picture of maypole dancing or make yourself a flower crown.

Thursday 30th April

Wow! I loved the pictures of your super-teds!

Today why not take a virtual trip to the Zoo. What interesting facts can you find out about the animals? You could draw a picture and write down some of your facts.

https://www.youtube.com/results?sp=mAEB&search_query=VIRTUAL+ZOO+DAY+LIVE

Wednesday 29th April

Good Morning Year 1,

I wonder which snack you decided would be best to take on a long walk.

Today’s challenge is to draw a picture of a super-teddy bear.

If you would like you can enter your picture into a national competition that John Lewis are running to raise money for the NHS Hospitals.  They will choose the best bear and it will be made into a cuddly toy to be sold at Christmas with 100% of the profits going to the NHS. I have put a link to the competition information below. #DesignYourSuperBear

Tuesday 28th April

Hi Year 1,

I have seen some great robots. Did you enjoy making them?

Do you remember the hot air balloon ride we took last week? I wonder what else we might spot from up in the clouds? Another thing we might be able to see is mountains and hills. Find out the name of at least one of the tallest peaks in the UK.

If we were going to hike up one of the mountains it would be a long walk so it would be important to pack a snack. Mozart can’t decide which fruit would be best to take. Ask your family and teddies what fruit they think we should take. You might want to create a tally chart or pictogram to help show what they decide.

Monday 27th April,

Good Morning Year 1,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend in the sunshine.

Today's challenge is to make a junk model robot. Can you give it a name and send me some photos of it.

Don't forget to also have a look at the writing challenge for this week in the weekly writing section of the website.

Friday 24th

Hi Year 1,

Thank you for all the photos that you have been sending me. I can see that you have all been very busy bees and all the photos are making me smile a lot.

Have a go at learning a poem today. Here is one you might like to learn.  You could copy it out and illustrate it.

I wonder what plants you have in your garden. If you can, have a look around your garden and find some plants and flowers that are growing. Remember, some plants can make humans feel poorly, so it is best to ask mummy and daddy before touching any of them.

A little Seed

A little seed for me to sow

A little soil to make it grow

A little hole, a little pat,

A little wish, and that is that,

A little sun, a little shower.

A little while – And then, a flower!

Parents,

It was lovely to speak to so many of you yesterday. For those of you who I haven't managed to speak to yet, I will try again today (just for a quick check-in).  It will be from an anonymous number - so if you are available it would be great to speak to you.

Mrs Burgess

Thursday 23rd

Hi Year 1,

How did you get on with finding out about capital cities? What was your most interesting fact that you found out?

Today’s challenge is to make some art from leaf rubbings.

Choose some leaves that are safe to pick (mummy and daddy may need to help you with this). The best leaves are ones with thick veins. Put the leaves under a piece of paper so that the back of the leaf is against the paper and gently rub the top of the paper with a wax crayon or chalk.

Why not have a go at this weeks writing task on the website. Don't forget to send me pictures of your work.

Hi Year 1,

I thought I would share another story with you.

Enjoy!

Wednesday 22nd

Hi Year 1,

Did you enjoy growing your own rainbow?

Today, why not imagine that you have taken a hot air balloon ride high into the sky.

You may want to watch this clip to help you imagine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrd0TiER_J0

If you flew above the UK (England, Wales, Scotland and Northan Ireland) what might you see?

One of the things that you would see would be cities like Oxford.

Each of the countries that make up the UK has a capital city. Find out what these cities are called and an interesting fact about each of them. You may want to watch this clip to help you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6vmFlNIEPE
